September's End-Part 2

I couldn't resist taking these photos of the boy
and his dog kayaking.

It is sort of a tight fit and can be
tippy when the dog sees a fish and wants
to get out!

September's End

These happy little flowers are on my
front porch, reaching for every bit
of remaining warmth from the sun.

These last days of September are gorgeous.
Maybe we can squeeze out one more day of
fun in the sun. The water is colder, but the
boat didn't mind.

We could hardly believe that Caleb wanted to
go tubing. The deal was, "OK, but don't fall off!"

Sentry is an avid boater, but whined for some
reason today. Did he know how cold the
water was?

The shot I missed was the enormous seal
who watched Caleb. Another reason not to
fall in! Good Bye September.

When in Rome......

On Her Way to Japan

Here is Hannah at the airport
in Seattle, on the first leg of her
journey to Japan. No luggage,
just an incredibly heavy backpack!

In Tokyo she had to get her ticket re-issued
and at least her name is in English!

Birdwatcher Help?

About 10 days ago we had a pigeon fly into
our yard, obviously very hungry.
The internet said that stray homing pigeons
who get lost will eat, drink and rest for a day
and then get back to trying to find home.

But this little guy decided not to leave our yard.
He/she has a band with numbers on
its leg, but I can't get close enough to read
them. It took me one week of moving the
birdseed nearer and nearer our rabbit hutch
and finally today it went in.



We'd like to keep it. We call him/her Pidge.
Hannah says it must be a male, since it obviously
didn't ask for directions on the way home!

Big Brothers Rock!

Toby brought his potato gun
for a little family fun.

This is probably the same silly goose
that likes to sit on benches. She knows
she's a bird and knows that this is a
bird feeder! Hmm.

Swim Across Hood Canal Day

The annual 'swim across the Canal' day found
Thomas and Caleb kayaking the waters
to aid any weary swimmers. A few were happy
to hitch a ride!

Hannah was in the single kayak and
the boys in the double.

It was an incredibly beautiful, hot September
day. Isn't the Northwest great!

Remember the Bench on the Bay?

Well, everyone seems to love a turn on it.

Work and Play

Caleb helped his Dad get firewood this weekend. It was
hot and splitting was hard work.
The payoff came when he got his first driving lesson!

Hannah works hard at her Seafood Store job.
Her reward came in the form of a hike to the
top of Mt. Elinor with Lucy.

Mmmm! Yummy Salmon!

Off they go. But they weren't alone.

The top of the mountain (6000+ ft.) was completely
shrouded in clouds this fine September day. No
spectacular views this time, but there were plenty
friends to share the experience with.

Sometimes a bit too close.

Guess Who Came to Dinner?

We had nice a nice visit with the Bamford Family
while they are home from the Philippines for a
few months.

Dinner and Games. Guess who did the dishes?

How typical is that??? What neat people!

Labor Day Evening

The tide came in with the evening.



Hannah and Caleb started a fire and cooked dinner...



...while Dad worked 'til dark.

Home Sweet Home on September 1st

Our home and yard on this first day of September

The back yard flowers are fading, but still cheery. The front garden climbs the new fence Thomas built this summer.




























The new grass in the front yard with a refurbished bench to enjoy the bay. Tide is out right now, check back in a few hours!






















The fire pit will be glowing tonight with Labor Day hot dogs!


Blackberries by the back pond, have replaced the waterfall for the time being.





















Firewood piles, little crab apples, and luscious pears have Autumn written all over them.















Lazy days find both man and animal enjoying the slow ease into Fall. Coonie heard us in the yard this afternoon and came by to stocks up on her favorite foods. After all... it is September, and the girl needs to prepare for winter.
